Material character
Pommélé describes a grain figure; the timber could be sapele, Khaya, or another mahogany-family wood.
Notable applications
Luxury cabinet veneers, fine musical instruments, boxes and inlays.
Of particular interest
Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum) is particularly well known for pommélé figure.
Workshop note
No single density or Janka value is defensible until the specimen’s species is confirmed. Avoid calling all pommélé Meliaceae true Swietenia mahogany.
Wood identification is provided by the Mokurei Studio collection, not independently laboratory-verified. Technical figures are reference averages, not measurements of the photographed piece; they vary with provenance and moisture.
